Cole Porter once pleaded, "don't monkey" with it, and George M. Cohan said, "give my regards to" it, but this year the Arlington High School (AHS) Pops concert will be glorifying that "road of romance" by presenting music drawn from many of Broadway's most memorable productions. Tickets are available at On the Stage,
so take your cue from Irving Berlin, another legend of the Great White Way, and "walk up the avenue" to Town Hall on Saturday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. or Sunday, May 3 at 2:00 p.m. to take it all in.
The following instrumental-group rehearsal photos give some idea of the quality and professionalism these concerts have long been known for.

The symphony orchestra will be performing excerpts from "Phantom of the Opera," "The Sound of Music," "The Lion King," "Les Misérables," and "West Side Story." The AHS Concert Band will play excerpts from "Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin," "Mamma Mia," "Evita," and "Wicked" as well as the song "New York, New York."

For the above-mentioned work the Sinfonietta will be augmented with winds, brass, and percussion.

As the last performing-arts concert of the academic year, Pops also features individual recognition of all the AHS seniors as they head off to "fresh woods and pastures new." As a result, this gala event is both a bittersweet acknowledgment the end of their time at AHS as well as a celebration of their years of dedication to "the sound of music."
